| The explosion of unwanted Dalmatians in the shelters of Southern
California has totally overwhelmed rescue efforts. The following table illustrates
the situation in Southern California shelters. The numbers represent Dalmatians that
have been reported as being in those shelters within the time frame but there may have
been others that came and went in between. Unfortunately, the majority of the Dalmatians
in these shelters are being euthanized. Only a few lucky ones manage to get adopted,
despite our efforts to interest the public and the media in their plight. This table
will be updated monthly, a sad testimony to the "disposable pets" attitude of
our society. |

The statistics below were generated from our Shelter Dalmatian database
for all Dalmatians entered into the database during each month. These are actual
Dalmatians, not estimates! This data is drawn from volunteer reports or shelter
websites for over 60 Southern California shelters all the way from
San Luis Obispo to San
Diego. We do not receive reports from all shelters all the time so we cannot make
any claim to completeness of this data. Our past
statistics from before 2001 have been recalculated as if we had been collecting data the same way for
previous years so that comparisons are possible.
